Salmon Season at Old Mill
This week our learners visited Old Mill to witness one of autumn’s most remarkable events: the salmon run on the Humber River.
The children watched salmon leap and push their way upstream against the current. We talked about why the salmon make this journey; they return to the waters where they were born to lay their eggs and begin the next generation.

|
|
|
Together we explored how healthy rivers support salmon, why clean water matters for every living thing that depends on it, and how each of us can help care for the waterways in our own community.
Experiences like this are at the heart of our outdoor learning. |

Our program runs 3 days per week: Tuesday through Thursday, from 9:00am to 12:00pm. This consistent, focused schedule allows children to build routines and relationships while giving families flexibility.
What Your Child Will Explore
Through a Reggio Emilia-inspired curriculum, children develop skills across multiple areas: |
|
|
|
Literacy and Language: Phonological awareness, letter recognition, storytelling, and vocabulary development through songs, games, and interactive learning
Mathematics: Counting, sequencing, sorting, patterns, and shapes explored through hands-on materials and real-world discovery.
Science and STEM: Problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration through sensory experiments and design challenges that ignite a love of learning.
Arts: Visual arts, music, drama, and dance integrated throughout the day to bring learning to life and foster creativity and self-expression. Outdoor Learning: Integrated throughout our program, outdoor education provides a natural space for children to develop stewardship, observation skills, and connection to nature while exploring all subject areas in our outdoor classroom. |

What Are You Grateful For? |
|
We hope you are all enjoying a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend.
This weekend, we are taking a moment to reflect on all that we are grateful for. Above all, we are thankful to be part of such a supportive community, one that has welcomed and held us since we first arrived.
To our parents, grandparents, families, and friends: thank you. Your encouragement, generosity, and care make Oak Learners the place it is, and we feel so fortunate to share this journey with you.
We are also deeply grateful for the amazing staff at Oak Learners. Our teachers and administrative team bring dedication, creativity, and heart to everything they do, and we are so lucky to have such a strong team supporting our learners and families every day.
From all of us at Oak Learners, Happy Thanksgiving.
