What we did at Oak this week |
In honour of Truth and Reconciliation, our students explored what it means to care for the land and protect our water. We began by reading The Water Walker by Joanne Robertson, the story of Nokomis Josephine Mandamin, an Anishinaabe grandmother who walked thousands of kilometres around the Great Lakes to raise awareness about protecting water.
Inspired by her journey, our junior scientists then learned how scientists test water to see whether it is safe to drink. Using pH strips, they compared water from the creek with the tap water in their own water bottles. The children were amazed to see the strips change to different colours for each sample! Together, we concluded that there is still important work to be done to help keep our rivers, creeks, and lakes clean. |

Our program runs 3 days per week: Tuesday through Thursday, from 9:00am to 12:00pm. This consistent, focused schedule allows children to build routines and relationships while giving families flexibility.
What Your Child Will Explore
Through a Reggio Emilia-inspired curriculum, children develop skills across multiple areas: Literacy and Language: Phonological awareness, letter recognition, storytelling, and vocabulary development through songs, games, and interactive learning |
Mathematics: Counting, sequencing, sorting, patterns, and shapes explored through hands-on materials and real-world discovery. Science and STEM: Problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration through sensory experiments and design challenges that ignite a love of learning.
Arts: Visual arts, music, drama, and dance integrated throughout the day to bring learning to life and foster creativity and self-expression. Outdoor Learning: Integrated throughout our program, outdoor education provides a natural space for children to develop stewardship, observation skills, and connection to nature while exploring all subject areas in our outdoor classroom. |
